New Rules From September 2026: What Changes for ITR, LPG, Milk & Bank FDs?
September 2026 money changes will affect taxpayers, LPG consumers, international travellers, milk buyers and bank customers. However, there is some confusion around the dates. Not every change described as a "September 1 rule" actually begins on September 1. Some important deadlines fall on August 31, while the revised fixed deposit rules will come into force from October 1, 2026.
Here is a closer look at the important deadlines and changes you should know before September begins.
Travellers will be able to use an electronic boarding pass on their mobile phones or carry a printed version. The move is expected to simplify the airport departure process and remove an additional step at immigration.
Passengers should nevertheless keep their boarding pass and other required travel documents readily available throughout their journey.
The Mumbai Milk Producers Association has increased the wholesale price by Rs 9 per litre, taking it from Rs 93 to Rs 102. The revised rate is expected to remain in effect until February 28, 2027.
Milk producers have attributed the increase to rising costs of dairy animals, cattle feed and fodder. According to the association, prices of some feed items have increased by up to 25 per cent, putting additional pressure on milk production costs.
However, this does not necessarily mean that every consumer will see a Rs 9 per litre increase. The announced hike applies to the wholesale price, while the final retail price can vary depending on individual suppliers and retailers.
The price increase also comes ahead of the festive season, when demand for milk and other dairy products generally rises.
Taxpayers earning income from a business or profession, whose accounts do not require an audit, have to file their income tax returns for Assessment Year 2026-27 by August 31.
The deadline applies to eligible taxpayers filing returns such as ITR-3 and ITR-4.
Those who fail to meet the deadline may still be able to file a belated return, depending on the applicable rules and conditions. Late filing charges may also apply.
Therefore, the August 31 date should be treated as an important income tax deadline, rather than a new rule beginning on September 1.
The deadline has been extended until the end of the month. Consumers who have not completed the required verification should check with their LPG provider or distributor and finish the process within the applicable deadline.
Completing e-KYC on time can help consumers avoid potential issues related to their LPG connection or applicable benefits.

The revised framework includes provisions relating to bulk deposits of Rs 3 crore and above. Banks will also have to publish applicable interest rates for such deposits on their websites by 10:10 am on working days.
The changes are aimed at improving transparency around deposit rates.
For ordinary FD investors, there is therefore no new RBI fixed deposit rule from this particular framework that starts on September 1.
However, any change should be considered confirmed only after the concerned oil marketing companies officially announce the revised rates.
The same caution applies to petrol, diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices. Possible monthly revisions should not be presented as confirmed September 1 changes until official announcements are made.
