PM Kisan 22nd Installment: Rs 2,000 Payment Coming Soon, Farmers Must Complete This Step

Millions of farmers across India are waiting for the next payment under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. Based on previous payment cycles, the 22nd installment of Rs 2,000 is likely to be released in the first or second week of March 2026. Although the announcement has taken slightly longer this year, past trends suggest that the next installment should arrive soon.

The PM Kisan scheme is one of the government’s major welfare initiatives aimed at supporting small and marginal farmers. Under the programme, eligible farmers receive Rs 6,000 per year, which is transferred directly into their bank accounts in three equal installments of Rs 2,000 through the Direct Benefit Transfer system. Since the scheme was launched on February 24, 2019, the government has already released 21 installments, benefiting crores of farmers across the country.

Past Payment Patterns Give a Clear Indication

Looking at previous records, the installment covering the December to March cycle has usually been credited between January and February. This consistent pattern helps estimate when the next payment might arrive.

Here is when the first installment of the year was credited in recent cycles:

  • 2019 – February 24
  • 2020 – January 2
  • 2021 – December 25, 2020
  • 2022 – January 1
  • 2023 – February 27
  • 2024 – February 28
  • 2025 – February 24

The trend shows that the government generally releases the payment by February. However, since this year’s payment has not yet been announced, it is now widely expected that the 22nd installment may arrive in early or mid March 2026.

Why There Is a Delay This Year

The delay appears to be linked to a large verification drive being carried out before releasing the next installment. Authorities are carefully reviewing the beneficiary database to ensure that only genuine and eligible farmers continue to receive the benefits.

In recent years, the government has intensified efforts to remove ineligible beneficiaries from the scheme. Reports suggest that millions of names have been deleted during verification exercises, and nearly 7 million names were removed during the cycle of the 21st installment. This process helps maintain transparency and ensures that the financial assistance reaches the right farmers.

Mandatory Requirements Farmers Must Complete

Farmers who wish to receive the upcoming installment must ensure that certain important formalities are completed.

The most important requirement is e-KYC verification, which has been made mandatory for all registered beneficiaries. Without completing this step, the payment may not be credited.

Farmers can complete e-KYC in the following ways:

  • Online through OTP verification on the PM Kisan portal
  • Using face authentication through the PM Kisan mobile application
  • Offline through biometric verification at Common Service Centres (CSC)
  • Completing e-KYC helps verify the identity of beneficiaries and prevents fraudulent claims.

Farmer ID Requirement in Several States

Another important update is the introduction of a unique Farmer ID in several states. States such as Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Bihar now require this ID for new registrations under the scheme.
