UPI goes global: Greece becomes latest country to join digital payment network
India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has been launched in Greece, marking another step in the global expansion of the country’s digital payment ecosystem, commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal said on Monday.
The launch was demonstrated at the headquarters of Eurobank in Athens through a partnership between Eurobank and NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL). The minister, who is on an official visit to Greece, witnessed the live demonstration alongside Eurobank CEO Fokion Karavias and Fairfax Digital Services CEO Sanjay Tugnait.
