Lucknow: More than 1.9 lakh Maharshi Charak Vatikas, or medicinal forests , were planted across the state on Thursday as part of the ongoing plantation campaign.

The plantation was done by the forest and Ayush departments of the state govt to commemorate the legacy of the great saint Charak, regarded as the father of Indian medicine.

These forests were established, at least one in every district, by planting saplings of tree species with medicinal value, like neem, sahjan, aonla, mulethi, camphor, tulsi, bel, Sita Ashok and other varieties that were conducive to the local agro-climatic conditions.
