2 cops land in vigilance net for graft

Bathinda : The Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Wednesday claimed to have arrested ASI Satroop Singh and Gurcharan Singh , reader to the SHO, Cyber Crime police station, Bathinda, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh.

A vigilance bureau spokesperson said that the two were arrested following a complaint regarding demand for illegal gratification.

A case was registered against the complainant’s son at the Cyber Crime police station in Bathinda. ASI Satroop Singh and Gurcharan Singh allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from the complainant to avoid arresting his son in the case and to help him secure bail. They also said that they would help him in striking a compromise with the other party.

Unwilling to pay the illegal gratification, the complainant approached the vigilance bureau, SAS Nagar.

Acting on his complaint, a vigilance bureau team laid a trap and arrested the accused police officials red-handed while they accepted the bribe from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau police station, SAS Nagar, and further investigation is in progress, the spokesperson added.
