3 booked for negligence causing death of machine operator at steel factory in Khalapur

NAVI MUMBAI: Khalapur police have registered an FIR against three persons including two shift in-charge and a unit head at Hindustan Inox Ltd, a stainless steel manufacturing company located at Kumbhivali, Khalapur taluka, for their alleged negligence causing death of a 50-year-old operator working on an OTO (Overhead Take-Off) machine at the wire unit.

The accused have been identified as Shravan Singh (31), Ajay Singh (21), both night shift in-charge and Mukesh Singh (42), who is the wire unit head. They were booked under BNS section for causing death by negligence not amounting to culpable homicide and joint criminal liability.

Sachin Pawar, senior inspector of Khalapur said, "The deceased was identified as Suresh Rajendra Choudhary, who hails from Bihar. On July 6 around 2.30 am, while Choudhary was working in night shift met with an accident after his finger got stuck in the running steel wire-drawing machine and got pulled into the machine causing him grievous head injuries. He succumbed to his injuries during treatment at hospital on July 6 around 6 am. Prima facie, an accidental death report was filed and further probe was initiated. It was concluded that the three accused were responsible for the death of Choudhary, as safety equipment was provided while engaging him at the OTO machine. Hence, on Wed, an FIR was registered against the three accused."
