8 held with banned plastic bags, illegal firecrackers in Gurgaon market raid

Gurgaon: Eight men were arrested from Khandsa Mandi for allegedly selling banned plastic bags , illegal firecrackers , and extorting money from vendors. A large quantity of illegal goods, including 643 kg of plastic bags and 138.5 kg of firecrackers, was seized during the raid, police said.

The crime branch received a tip-off about a group of men involved in forcibly selling illegal goods and extorting money from vendors at the market.

A police team raided the area and apprehended Sonu alias Gabbar (24) of Bharatpur, Rajasthan; Ritik Jain (23), Pawan (38) and Sagar (25), of Shivaji Park, Gurgaon; Vikas Gupta (22) of Muzaffarpur, Bihar; Suresh Kumar (25) of Madhubani, Bihar; Indrajeet (44) of Badshahpur, Gurgaon; Ravi Chaudhary (21) of Vaishali, Bihar.

During questioning, the accused admitted to the crime. "It was revealed that the accused forcibly sold illegal goods and extorted money from vendors. They assaulted those vendors and shopkeepers who did not buy their goods. The illegal goods recovered in the above case had been sold to these vendors and shopkeepers," said a police officer.

Police said the team also recovered 79 chargeable batteries, 11 chargers, and 5 battery chargers from their possession. A case was registered against them at Sector 37 police station under the Explosives Act and relevant sections of the BNS.

All eight accused were produced before a local court on Tuesday. Police said further investigation is underway to identify others involved in the racket.
