B K Hariprasad appointed as Karnataka Congress president

BENGALURU: The Congress appointed senior leader B K Hariprasad as the president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee ( KPCC ) on Wednesday, succeeding D K Shivakumar.

The appointment came hours after Shivakumar was sworn in as Karnataka chief minister along with 13 ministers, marking a smooth leadership transition in the state.

Siddaramaiah had resigned from the chief minister's post on Thursday following directions from the party high command.

Hariprasad has also been named as the Congress candidate for the upcoming Karnataka Legislative Council election.

"Congress president has appointed B K Hariprasad as the president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, with immediate effect," AICC general secretary (organisation) K C Venugopal said in a statement.

"The party appreciates the contribution of the outgoing PCC president D K Shivakumar," the statement also said.

A senior Congress leader, Hariprasad has handled organisational responsibilities in several states. He is currently the party's in-charge for Haryana and is expected to relinquish that role soon.
