BBC Death in Paradise's Ben Miller opens up on return to beloved role

Death in Paradise star Ben Miller has opened up about his return to ITV drama Professor T and the role he landed in an Australian drama called Austin. Ben played beloved detective Richard Poole in Death in Paradise before his character was brutally killed off. However, soon after, the actor began filming for Professor T, where he plays Jasper Tempest.

Speaking in an interview on Good Morning Britain in recent months, Ben discussed his highly anticipated return to the drama.

When asked by Richard Madeley about whether Ben "gets any sleep" due to his busy schedule, the actor joked, "Rob Brydon and I divide the roles between us; we manage it that way. I am on today, and Rob's at home."

Before speaking further about his roles and career, Richard asked Ben about another role in the Australian series, Austin.

Ben said, "Yeah, it was really fun to do. I mean, the next thing that happens in the show is Richard decides, because he's arrived in Australia, he's been cancelled because of something he retweeted on the plane.

"And then he decided he was going to book his own book tour. And of course, he finds one place that will have him, and they turn up, and it's a Nazi bookshop. So then he's learned properly that he's cancelled."

Kate Garraway chimed in, "But there must be something in your mind that I don't know how much you love or not, social media, but when you're thinking about your comedy and your writing, is the whole cancel culture there?"

Ben replied, "Well, my take would be that social media is not what we thought it was to start with. It was a great way of meeting new people and hearing really interesting points of view.

"And then they decided they had to make money out of it. So then it became about getting people's attention, and the only way to get your attention is to use an algorithm, and the algorithm shows you things that make you either angry or engage you, and I think that has really changed the sort of public discourse."

Ben often keeps his social media followers updated regarding his acting roles, and earlier this year, he informed fans that filming for series five of Professor T had finished.

Alongside a picture of Professor Jasper Tempest, the Death in Paradise star wrote, "Last week we wrapped Season 5 of Professor T!

"Another few months spent filming with the hardest working crew and cast who give their all to this show. It's always a pleasure."

He added, "I'll be sharing some behind-the-scenes photos - these were taken by the talented Toon Aerts."
