BEST Orders Crash-Prevention Training for Mumbai Contract Bus Drivers

Mumbai: Following Dadar bus crash , BEST general manager Sonia Sethi , on Wednesday directed all contract bus drivers to undergo 3-day crash-prevention training . Depot officers will have to inspect wet lease buses at least twice in a month, and a joint inspection of buses to be carried out on route by bus crew members.

“Engineering depot officers will visit bus terminus to check parked buses for any technical deficiency. Early morning snap checking of buses to be carried out by them. Also special meetings of all bus drivers to be conducted to provide guidance on safe and cautious driving practices,” the new set of measures mentioned.

Refresher training will be imparted to drivers on speed control, maintaining vigilance at intersections, passenger safety, and handling emergency situations. The work performance of the drivers involved in accidents will be reviewed and necessary counselling provided. Bus inspectors in civil will check irregularities in driving habits such as lane cutting, dangerous overtaking, speaking on mobile.
