Chennai airport modernisation gets Dec deadline
CHENNAI: The central govt has set Dec 2026 as the revised deadline for completing the ongoing modernisation of Chennai airport, attributing the delay to the Covid-19 pandemic, cyclones and unusually heavy rainfall.
Union minister of state for civil aviation Murlidhar Mohol said the Airports Authority of India (AAI) was carrying out the expansion and modernisation project in two phases at a total cost of Rs 2,467 crore. Under Phase I, AAI constructed a new integrated terminal building, increasing the airport’s passenger-handling capacity from 23 million passengers per annum (MPPA) to 30 MPPA.
