Delhi Government to Withdraw Bed and Breakfast Policy After Deadly Malviya Nagar Hotel Fire
In the wake of the devastating fire at a hotel in Delhi's Malviya Nagar area, the Delhi government has decided to officially withdraw its Bed and Breakfast (B&B) policy. The announcement was made by Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra, who said that all establishments operating under the scheme will also undergo a detailed review.
Speaking to PTI, Mishra said, "We are going to officially withdraw the Bed and Breakfast scheme, and all establishments licensed under it will be checked."
The minister said strict action would be taken against operators found violating licence conditions. He added that establishments registered under the scheme must comply with the rules, particularly regarding the number of rooms being operated.
“Action would be taken against operators found violating the terms of the licence. If any establishment registered under the scheme is found running more than six rooms, its licence will be cancelled," Mishra said.
The government's decision comes after a massive fire broke out at Flourish Stay B&B on Wednesday morning, resulting in the deaths of 21 people and leaving several others injured.
According to officials, 11 of those who lost their lives were foreign nationals. The incident has raised serious concerns over safety standards and regulatory compliance at establishments operating under the Bed and Breakfast scheme.
Following the tragedy, authorities are expected to intensify inspections and take action against any property found violating licensing norms or safety regulations.
