'Do read this letter to as many as possible': Batalik hero's last note from battlefield

Dehradun: On June 19, 1999, as Bofors guns roared across the Batalik sector and Indian troops prepared to retake enemy-held heights in Kargil, Captain Manoj Pandey of 1/11 Gorkha Rifles wrote what would become his last letter to childhood friend and Sainik School roommate Pavan Mishra . The letter reached Mishra on June 30. Three days later, Captain Pandey made the supreme sacrifice on July 3 and was later awarded Param Vir Chakra posthumously.
