According to the authorities, the brothers, both under the influence of alcohol, engaged in a quarrel over a monetary dispute. In a fit of rage, Rachit attacked Rahul on the head with a stick, leading to immediate fatality. The horrifying incident unfolded in their family home.
The remorseful Rachit, overwhelmed by guilt, then attempted to take his own life by cutting his wrist. However, vigilant locals intervened just in time to prevent the tragedy from escalating further. Rachit was promptly rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was subsequently placed under arrest.
Police, acting on the complaint filed by the father of the deceased, registered a case of murder. Barabanki ASP Chiranjeev Nath Sinha shed light on the root cause of the dispute, stating, "The family had property and Rachit thought that land properties would go to one of his unmarried sisters while the lion's share of the property had been given to his elder brother Rahul." This revelation came to light during the interrogation of other family members.
The younger sister of the victim, Asha Kumari, who was present at her father's residence in Jahangirabad, played a crucial role in alerting the police about the incident. She quickly took her injured brother to the district hospital for medical attention.
