Father-son duo among three killed in toxic gas leak at Ludhiana factory, several workers fall unconscious
PTC News Desk: At least three people including a father-son duo were killed in a toxic gas leak at a wrench and spanner manufacturing factory in Ludhiana and left several workers unconscious.
The deceased father-son duo has been identified as Manna and his son Amit. They had reportedly gone to collect soil and debris from beneath a machine and load it into a trolley when they were caught in the gas leak.
Meanwhile the identity of third deceased has not been disclosed yet.
According to reports, the victims died of suffocation, while a number of workers employed at the factory were exposed to the poisonous gas. Several workers reportedly lost consciousness, and the condition of many others is said to be critical.
Eyewitnesses said that work was proceeding as usual at the factory when a leak suddenly developed in a gas pipeline or cylinder. Within minutes, the toxic gas spread throughout the premises. The impact was so severe that workers did not get enough time to evacuate. Many collapsed inside the factory due to suffocation and intense irritation in their eyes.
The incident triggered panic in the area, and rescue efforts were immediately launched to evacuate those trapped inside the factory.
