Four govt schools chosen for veggies project; to supply for noon meal scheme
Trichy: Four govt schools in Trichy district have been selected under the Tamil Nadu govt’s green school (Pasumai Palli) programme for the 2026-27 academic year. According to officials, vegetables and greens cultivated on the school campuses will be supplied to the noon meal scheme, helping improve the nutritional value of meals served to students while reducing procurement costs.

The selected schools are govt high schools at Peruvalapur, Thinnanur and Naduvalur, and govt boys higher secondary school, Mettupalayam. Each school will receive ₹20 lakh to establish environmentally sustainable infrastructure and promote environmental awareness among students.
Under the scheme, the schools will set up vegetable, fruit and herbal gardens, install solar lighting, solar-powered pumps and borewells, rainwater harvesting systems, drip irrigation facilities, greenhouses and waste segregation units. The horticulture department will assess the feasibility of the proposed facilities before implementation.
