PUNE: Deputy chief minister and Pune's guardian minister Ajit Pawar on Friday said that an inquiry was initiated into the issue of gangster Nilesh Ghaywal getting a passport by altering his personal documents. Additionally, minister of state for home Yogesh Kadam approved the arms licence application of Ghaywal's brother.

Pawar said that he discussed the arms licence application issue with the Pune police commissioner Amitesh Kumar , who informed him that despite Kadam approving the application, Pune police have not given an arms licence to the gangster's brother, Sachin Ghaywal. The Pune guardian minister also said that the inquiry of the case will reveal who gave recommendations for Ghaywal to get an arms licence.

"When I was with the Chief Minister and other Deputy Chief Minister in Mumbai a couple of days back, the issue (of Ghaywal) came up for discussion. At that time, the Chief Minister made it clear that the inquiry in a transparent manner will be conducted and no guilty person will be shielded by our govt," Pawar said while interacting with the media in Pune.

Members of Mahayuti and MVA have been targeting each other after Ghaywal's photos with politicians from both alliances surfaced on social media. Responding to the issue, Pawar said, "During any public event, several people click photos with politicians, and it is impossible to know everyone's character. Only because there is a photo of a politician with somebody with a criminal record does not mean they have some links. If any communication or call records details are found between them, then there should be an inquiry."
