Gardeners' World star Carol Klein makes major announcement as show future confirmed
Gardeners' World favourite Carol Klein has made a major announcement about an exciting new show away from the BBC gardens. In March, the 80-year-old horticulturist joined forces with her BBC co-star Diamuid Gavin on a new BBC show, The Greatest Gardens, as they travelled across Northern Ireland to discover the most extraordinary gardens across the country. They were accompanied by several celebrity guests, including Dame Prue Leith and Fred Sirieix, who evaluated these backgarden sanctuaries based on design, creativity and planting prowess.
Tonight (May 29), the dynamic duo will crown the winner of The Greatest Garden 2026 as the first series comes to an end. Teasing the upcoming episode, the broadcaster took to Instagram to reveal the timing of tonight's grand final and share a snap of her beaming alongside her co-star hours before the live final hits the airwaves.
But that wasn't the only exciting news she had for her loyal fans, as she revealed that filming for the second series had already begun. She penned: "Come and join us at 7pm tonight, Friday 29 May, on BBC Two for the grand final of Greatest Gardens with Diarmuid Gavin and Carol Klein!
"You'll meet our finalists, be reminded of their beautiful gardens and find out who went away with the trophy and whose garden was deemed 'Greatest Garden 2026'. And some exciting news... we're about to record the second series!"
It didn't take long before fans flocked to the comments section to share their excitement online. One user penned: "So glad there is going to be another series, loved the first. Great energy!" as another agreed: "Second series! Made my day. Enjoy recording it all, it looked like so much fun. You're such a hard worker, Carol, a true national treasure [heart emoji]."
A third echoed: "Excellent, I have so loved this first series", as a fourth chimed in with [three applause emojis] to the 2nd series. Really looking forward to it. I've thoroughly enjoyed this programme, so lovely to view other people's gardens. It's a real inspiration, thank you!"
It comes after Carol set the record straight about her retirement plans following a battle with breast cancer and undergoing surgery. Carol was diagnosed with breast cancer back in April 2024 and underwent a successful double mastectomy.
Following her surgery and treatment, she was given the all-clear and swiftly returned to work and gardening, crediting her passion for plants with aiding her recovery. In a recent episode of the BBC Gardeners' World Magazine Podcast, the gardener opened up about her career and explained why she feels like a "lucky person".
When asked what keeps her going and whether she will retire in the near future, she insisted that she loves her work and admitted that "nothing comes between" her and her plants. She chuckled: "I absolutely couldn't [retire].
"I haven't got enough dosh to do that for a start, but that's not the reason. I want to carry on working. I just love it - I love the gardening, I love the presenting, I love writing. I'm such a lucky person. So few people in the world get to do what they really want to do and love what they're doing, and I'm one of them, but I think I'll just carry on until I just, yeah... stop."
