Girl dies, 3 injured after car swerves to avoid hitting dog in Madurai
Madurai : A nine-year-old girl was killed and three others were injured after a car overturned when the driver tried to avoid hitting a dog near Chittampatti in Madurai on Friday morning.
Police said Anbarasu and 11 of his family members from Kundrathur near Chennai were travelling in a car to the Subramaniya Swamy temple at Thiruchendur . Anbarasu’s younger brother Thangappan was driving the car. When the car was near Chittampatti Auxilium College on Madurai-Trichy NH around 9.30am, a dog suddenly crossed the highway. In an attempt to avoid hitting the animal, Thangappan swerved the car and lost control over it, before the vehicle overturned.
In the impact, Thangappan ’s daughter Liyashree suffered injuries on her head, hand, and legs. Locals called 108 ambulance service and the girl was rushed to the Govt Rajaji Hospital . However, doctors there declared her dead on arrival. Three others, Malathi, Thangappan, and Mahizhini, sustained minor injuries.
The Othakadai police registered a case and are investigating.
