Goa Dental College records 12 oral cancer cases a month in 2025
Panaji : Goa Dental College and Hospital (GDCH), the state’s tertiary care centre for the early detection, diagnosis and management of oral precancerous lesions and oral cancer , recorded an average of 12 oral cancer cases a month—including new and follow-up patients—in 2025.
The hospital also detected an average of 44 precancerous oral lesions each month during the year, underscoring the importance of early screening and intervention.
A key preventive service at GDCH is its Tobacco Cessation Centre , which provides counselling to help people quit tobacco use. Doctors said chewing tobacco significantly increases the risk of oral cancer, gum disease, and tooth loss.
The hospital offers comprehensive oral cancer care, including screening and risk assessment, clinical diagnosis of oral lesions, biopsy and radiological investigations where required, multidisciplinary treatment planning, surgical management, pre-radiotherapy and pre-chemotherapy dental clearance, referrals for oncological treatment, long-term follow-up and surveillance, and prosthetic rehabilitation.
