Google will soon make millions of Android phones look vastly out of date
There are a few big weeks ahead for Android users, and it could make current devices look massively inferior. It's just been confirmed that Google will be holding a major launch event in New York next month, where the US technology giant will reveal its next batch of flagship smartphones. The date that's been set is August 12, with Google sending out emails to media, which says "Come celebrate with us in NYC on August 12. It's the night the next generation of Pixel arrives."
This upcoming showcase will almost certainly be all about the new Pixel 11 range, which are sure to be more powerful, feature improved cameras, longer battery life and continue to get smarter thanks to advancements in AI. New colours, updated design, and faster charging could also be included in this release.
Along with the Pixel 11 and Pixel 11 Pro models, Google may also unveil a refreshed foldable, new Pixel Watch wearables and noise-cancelling earbuds.
The Pixel event is scheduled to start at 6pm local time, which is 11pm BST. Express.co.uk will bring you all the news live from the event.
Google isn't the only tech giant that has new devices on the way. Samsung has also confirmed its next Unpacked event, which is taking place in London on July 22.
Samsung will be showing off its latest foldables, including the new additions to its Flip and Fold ranges.
Making things a bit more exciting this year is the news that something totally different could be announced.
Teasing the changes, Samsung said: "A New Shape Unfolds." This follows a bunch of social media posts which showcased images of everyday products appearing shorter and wider.
All of these point to Samsung releasing a new foldable that could look more like a passport. The big benefit of this design is that once opened, it will be far more like a tablet than the current square display on the Galaxy Z Fold.
That should make it far better for watching movies, playing games and multitasking.
There is another reason Samsung might be launching this device: to beat Apple.
It's long been rumoured that the US technology company is planning to unleash its first-ever foldable, and most rumours suggest that this bendy iPhone will get a similar passport-style shape.
Clearly, Samsung wants to be ahead of the game and have this design in stores long before Apple takes to the stage in Cupertino this September.
