HERC eases power surcharge norms, offers relief to consumers

Chandigarh: The Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) has relaxed surcharge norms for excess contract demand and simplified rules for reduction and restoration of sanctioned load, providing relief to industrial, commercial and other power consumers.

Under amendments to the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (Electricity Supply Code) Regulations, 2014, consumers will no longer have to pay a surcharge if their power draw remains within 110% of the approved contract demand. Earlier, any draw beyond 105% attracted a 25% surcharge on total electricity charges.
