SHIMLA : The southwest monsoon continued to batter Himachal Pradesh on Friday, pushing the death toll to 14 and causing cumulative losses to public and private property worth more than Rs 15.27 crore, according to the latest situation report issued by the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), ANI reported.

The hill state continued to face widespread disruption to road connectivity, electricity supply and drinking water services as restoration teams worked to clear debris and restore essential infrastructure in several districts.

According to the SEOC report, 12 people have died in weather-related incidents since June 30, while two others were killed in separate road accidents attributed to adverse weather conditions.

Electrocution accounted for the highest number of weather-related deaths, claiming five lives. Three people each died in avalanches and after falling from trees or steep rocks, while one person drowned, the report said.

Among the districts, Kangra recorded the highest number of fatalities with four deaths, followed by Shimla (3) and Mandi (2). Chamba, Kullu and Lahaul & Spiti reported one death each. The two road accident fatalities were reported from Kinnaur and Mandi districts, ANI reported.

The financial impact of the ongoing monsoon has risen to Rs 15.27 crore, with damage to public infrastructure accounting for Rs 1,444.77 lakh.

Mandi reported infrastructure losses of Rs 28.80 lakh, followed by Kangra (Rs 20.10 lakh) and Shimla (Rs 12.30 lakh). Besides public infrastructure, extensive damage has also been reported to private property, agricultural land and animal shelters across several districts.

Road connectivity remained severely affected, although the number of blocked roads fell to 49 by 6 pm on Friday from 61 reported earlier in the day.

Kullu remained the worst-hit district with 30 roads blocked, including 13 in the Nirmand subdivision and 10 in Banjar. Chamba reported 10 road closures, followed by three each in Sirmaur and Kangra, and two in Mandi.

In Lahaul and Spiti, two roads continued to remain blocked, though connectivity had been restored through an alternate route at Jahalma Nullah.

In Una district, traffic on the Ajouli-Sanoli road near the Punjab border has been suspended and diverted through the Sanoli-Melwan road, while the Bhaderkali-Jailo Di Badh link road remains closed due to rain-induced roadside erosion.
