India to Get Its First National Cow Culture Museum in Mathura: A Celebration of Heritage and Science
Mathura, Uttar Pradesh In a unique cultural and educational initiative, India is all set to inaugurate its first National Cow Culture Museum in Mathura, marking a significant milestone in celebrating India’s deep-rooted connection with cows. The museum will be established on the campus of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Veterinary Science University under the guidance of the Uttar Pradesh Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad.
The chosen site has already been identified and inspected by senior officials including Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad leaders and local authorities who reviewed the project’s layout and goals.
Officials say the museum will focus on showcasing the religious, cultural, and spiritual importance of cows in Indian society, alongside their scientific and economic value. The vision is to create a holistic space where tradition meets science, enhancing public awareness about cattle conservation and the various benefits derived from cow-based products.
A key feature will be displays of approximately 100 digital and symbolic models representing indigenous cattle breeds from across India, including endangered ones. This will help future generations grasp the rich diversity of the country’s bovine heritage.
Another major attraction will be an exhibition dedicated to cow milk and dairy products such as curd, cheese, ghee and more. Using modern exhibit techniques, this section aims to educate visitors about the scientific, nutritional, and Ayurvedic benefits of these dairy items.
The museum will also feature a dairy parlour offering pure dairy products, adding an experiential dimension to the visit.
Officials noted that the project embraces the cultural notion of the cow as ‘mother’ in Indian tradition, emphasizing that cow conservation is intertwined not just with agriculture and economics, but also with faith, lifestyle, and public welfare.
Backed by directives from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the museum is expected to enhance the identity of the Braj region and promote a cow-based economy grounded in scientific management and cultural respect.
