Jhansi Horror: 12-Year-Old Girl Accuses ‘Tantrik’ Of Sexual Assault In Exorcism Attempt
A disturbing case from Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi district has highlighted the dangers of blind faith and fake occult practices. A self-styled tantrik allegedly molested a 12-year-old girl during an exorcism ritual, which he claimed would cure her throat pain. The shocking assault has triggered a police search and renewed public concern over superstition-driven crimes in India.
The child, an eighth-grade student, had been struggling with severe throat pain and difficulty swallowing for several days. After medical treatment failed to show improvement, some villagers convinced the family that she might be possessed. Acting on their suggestion, the family contacted Harbhajan, a resident of Niwari district in Madhya Pradesh, known locally for performing fake exorcisms.
Tantrik Ordered the Family to Stay Outside
On 18 November, the tantrik arrived at the girl’s home. After a so-called “examination”, he declared that the child was under the influence of evil spirits. He insisted that the exorcism ritual must be conducted behind closed doors and asked the family not to enter, even if she screamed, claiming it was “normal” during the process.
According to the girl’s father, the man took the minor into a room and locked the door. Moments later, the family heard her crying loudly, but fear and superstition kept them from intervening. After almost half an hour, Harbhajan stepped out and claimed the ritual was complete, before fleeing the house immediately.
Survivor Reveals Harrowing Details
The traumatised child ran to her mother and revealed the horrifying details. She said the tantrik removed her clothes, rubbed lemons across her body, and molested her for nearly 30 minutes in the name of an exorcism ritual. Her testimony now forms the basis of the sexual assault investigation.
Police Launch Search for Accused
Shattered by the incident, the family filed a complaint at Baruasagar police station. The girl has undergone a medical examination, and a case under relevant sections of law has been registered for sexual assault on a minor.
Station House Officer Rahul Rathore confirmed:
“A case has been registered against the accused, Harbhajan, on the complaint of the victim’s mother. Raids are being conducted to arrest him, and the matter is under investigation.”
Police are now actively tracing the accused, who remains on the run. The incident throws urgent light on the exploitation of vulnerable families through superstition and fake tantrik practices in multiple regions of India.
