Lightning kills five in Chhattisgarh as IMD warns of more thunderstorms

RAIPUR: At least five people were killed and 12 others injured in separate lightning strikes across Chhattisgarh on Tuesday as thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain lashed several parts of the state, prompting the IMD to warn of more lightning and intense showers till Thursday.

The fatalities come amid an active monsoon spell triggered by a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal, with the weather system also causing flooding, disrupted road connectivity and continuing rescue operations in several districts.
