Lucknow’s Model Chai Wali Goes Viral, but the Internet Has One Request: ‘Please Tie Your Hair’
Simran Gupta , now famously known as ‘ Model Chai Wali ,’ is turning heads once again, this time for a viral video that has racked up over 11 million views on Instagram in just four days. Shared by the food blogging channel The Hungry Panjabi, the video captures Simran, a former beauty pageant winner and entrepreneur, effortlessly preparing chai at her tea stall in Lucknow.
Gupta, who won the Miss Gorakhpur title in 2018, ventured into modeling shortly after. “After becoming Miss Gorakhpur, my morale increased a lot. After this, I moved to Delhi and I started getting modeling offers. I also worked in some ads. During this time, my career was going very well, but then Covid came. When people of every profession were affected due to the lockdown, my work also came to a halt. I was forced to return to my city Gorakhpur,” she shared with The Better India.
As the sole breadwinner in her family, she took inspiration from renowned tea sellers like Prafull Billore and Priyanka Gupta, eventually opening her tea shop in Lucknow. This entrepreneurial shift from glamour to chai-making has now thrust her into the limelight again.
The viral video shows Simran dressed in a stylish pink outfit, flipping her hair as she prepares a steaming cup of masala chai for her customers. The video has garnered over 10,000 comments, with mixed reactions. While many admire her for building a business from scratch, some viewers expressed concerns over hygiene, noting her open hair and lack of gloves.
Comments like "Chai ke saath baal free (hair free with tea)" flooded in, but some were more considerate, simply requesting her to tie her hair for future videos.
Despite the criticism, the viral attention highlights Simran’s growing brand, showcasing how a beauty queen can brew success with a cup of tea.
