Madurai's second waste transfer station to begin operations soon
Madurai : The construction is almost complete for the second solid waste transfer station at Kochadai , Madurai. The station will handle garbage from Kochadai, Maapalayam, Fathima Nagar, Ellis Nagar, Ponmeni, Virattipathu, Jai Nagar and Periyar bus stand.
The facility marks a shift in Madurai’s waste management system. By establishing a transfer station close to collection zones, small collection vehicles can quickly offload waste locally and return to neighbourhood routes rather than making frequent trips across town to the Vellakkal dump yard . At the transfer station, the waste received will be consolidated, crushed and compacted, before being moved to the Vellakkal dumping yard.
