Mayor opens road, drainageprojects in city

Lucknow: Foundation stone for 17 road and drainage projects across Kharagpur Sarsawa and Bharwara Malhaur wards was laid by Mayor Sushma Kharkwal on Wednesday. The projects were funded under infrastructure fund and 15th Finance Commission with outlay of Rs 12.76 crore. Among key projects were a Rs 50.52 lakh road and drainage system in Narayan Vihar, work worth Rs 15 lakh in Golden Enclave and Arjunganj Saraswati Puram and a Rs 96 lakh road project in Kailashpuri Colony. A Rs 2.2 crore RCC drain near Sankat Mochan main gate was planned to check waterlogging. In Bharwara Malhaur, projects worth Rs 88.12 lakh were launched in Prem Nagar Colony, Laulai and adjoining areas. The mayor expressed displeasure over poor sanitation at several sites. Residents complained about irregular street sweeping and dependence on private waste collectors.

Kharkwal summoned zonal sanitary officer Pankaj Shukla , reprimanded him, and ordered an inquiry into lapses. Reiterating her focus on accountability and transparency, the Mayor She said, "Public service, transparency and sustainable development are our non-negotiable priorities."
