Met Office names 47 areas facing heavy rain on Thursday - full list
The Met Office has warned that parts of the UK are set to see heavy rain overnight into Thursday before conditions improve across much of the country later in the day.
A latest rainfall forecast map shows the heaviest and most persistent rain pushing across northern and eastern Scotland during the early hours of Thursday, with outbreaks of rain also affecting parts of northeast England.
Some of the rain is expected to be heavy before gradually easing overnight.
Further south, cloud will spread into southern parts of England overnight, bringing patchy rain and drizzle as well as coastal and hill fog across southwest England.
The Met Office said: "This Evening and Tonight: Windy in the north with outbreaks of rain this evening, heavy at times, then turning drier overnight. Cloud reaching southern areas later, bringing coastal and hill fog to the southwest and some patchy rain and drizzle elsewhere.
"Thursday: Cloud and patchy rain clearing the far south through the day. Largely dry elsewhere with sunny spells. Remaining windy in the northeast. Cool in the northwest, warm in the southeast."
While the wet weather will affect parts of the country overnight, Thursday is expected to become much brighter for many. Rain and cloud across southern England will gradually clear, leaving most areas dry with sunny spells. Winds will remain strong in northeastern parts of the UK, while temperatures will vary, with cooler conditions in the northwest and warmer weather across the southeast.
