Minister tables supplementary estimates for 2,900 crore

Chennai: Finance minister Thangam Thennarasu tabled the first supplementary estimates for the current financial year on Wednesday in the state assembly, of 2,914 crore.

Of this, 471.53 crore was allocated to procure 3,000 new BS-VI buses "to replace the overaged buses" of TNSTC . Govt sanctioned 469 crore for implementation of Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam scheme . A major portion of the revised estimates was allocated to settling terminal benefits for TNSTC employees. Govt allocated 1,137 crore to settle benefits for employees who retired, and for those deceased.

Govt sanctioned 522.34 crore towards transfer of state disaster response account from funds received from national disaster response fund for Cyclone Fengal in 2024. Supplementary estimates are presented to obtain the assembly's approval for expenditure on new services and schemes.tnn
