Morrisons petrol station to undergo major transformation - 3 new features
A Morrisons petrol station in West Yorkshire is set to undergo a major revamp, with three major new features added. Calderdale Council has given the go-ahead for the Motor Fuel Group (MFG) to make significant alterations to the petrol station adjacent to the Morrisons store in Illingworth, north Halifax.
MFG is a leading petrol station operator which bought and previously took control of Morrisons' petrol forecourt estate while maintaining the branding. Planners at the local authority have approved various changes put forward by MFG, including replacing the existing jet washes, modifications to the forecourt canopy, and a single-storey extension to the current filling station sales building.
A supporting statement from consultants at Carney Sweeney spelt out various proposals, which also include adding four new parking spaces, new parcel lockers, a new bin store, and new vacuum units and bays.
It also put forward plans for an "outdoor laundrette" and "associated forecourt works".
The consultants explained that the extension will be designed to serve passing motorists and the local community.
They said it would "utilise the same staff that are currently employed in the sales building (albeit the number of employees will increase)".
Apart from ensuring that measures were in place to secure parking and manoeuvring areas highways officers believe the proposals wouldn't bring a significant increase in traffic levels and haven't raised any objections.
The application was approved by the council on Wednesday, June 3.
MFG's deal to acquire Morrisons' 337 petrol forecourts was completed in 2024 in a £2.5billion deal. Both firms are owned by American private equity firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice.
It also saw Morrisons take a minority stake in MFG, with an agreement in place that the branding would remain, and the supermarket chain would continue to provide the forecourts with its products.
Additionally, the forecourt operator took on more than 400 associated sites across the UK for Ultra-Rapid electric vehicle ("EV") charging development as part of the agreement.
