Nitish opens cricket stadium in Rajgir, presents sports awards

Patna: CM Nitish Kumar on Sunday inaugurated the newly constructed International Cricket Stadium (ICS), its pavilion and cricket ground at Rajgir in Nalanda district. He also distributed appointment letters for govt jobs among 87 outstanding players and sports award money worth about Rs 8 crore among 812 sportspersons at a function organised at the State Sports Academy , Rajgir.

After inaugurating the stadium, Nitish inspected the pavilion and reviewed the cricket ground. Players present at the venue welcomed the CM with applause and he acknowledged their greetings by waving. During the inspection, he enquired from officials about the arrangements at the new stadium.

According to a communique issued by the chief minister’s office (CMO), “The ICS at Rajgir has been constructed on 18 acres of land with seating arrangements for approximately 40,000 spectators. A pavilion (G+5) has been constructed in the stadium. Six pitches have been prepared with red soil brought from Maharashtra and another seven pitches with black soil from Mokama. A drainage system has been developed for water drainage from the field during the rainy season. Construction work in the cricket stadium has been ensured keeping in mind the basic facilities for players and spectators.”

The communique added, “The stadium will have modern facilities, including a special pavilion for players, reserved seating arrangements for coaches and managers, special stands for VVIP guests and a dedicated gallery for media. This ground, prepared according to BCCI standards, is fully capable of hosting national and international matches. This stadium will not only give new heights to sports culture in Bihar but will also establish Rajgir on the map of national and international sports tourism. This stadium will soon be capable of hosting international cricket matches.”

Later, at the same venue, the CM distributed appointment letters for govt jobs among 87 medal-winning players and award cheques among 812 sportspersons. He symbolically handed over appointment letters to 10 players selected as police sub-inspectors – Anshika Kumari, Sapna Kumari, Payal Preeti, Nikhat Khatoon, Khushboo Kumari, Sultana Bano, Sweety Kumari , Mahi Shwetraj, Neeraj Kumar and Bobby Kumar. Of these, eight are female and two are male.

Under the state govt’s ‘Medal Lao Naukri Pao’ scheme, 87 players who won medals in national and international competitions this year were given govt jobs. These include 39 female and 48 male athletes, who have been appointed in various departments according to their qualifications and requirements.

Nitish also presented sports award money to three international players – Rs 75 lakh to Shailesh Kumar, Rs 35 lakh to Bobby Kumar and Rs 10 lakh to Goldy Kumari. This year, the sports award money was distributed among a total of 812 players.
