Prahar activists detained while attempting to torch seed firm's office over crop germination complaints in Sambhajinagar
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar : Tension prevailed on Beed Bypass Road in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Saturday after activists of the Prahar Janshakti Party were detained for allegedly attempting to set fire to the office of a private seed company.
The company stands accused of supplying poor-quality cotton seeds that reportedly failed to germinate. The protesters, carrying flaming torches, demanded stringent action against the firm, alleging that farmers across the Marathwada region have suffered heavy losses due to defective seeds.

The agitation was organised in the wake of mounting complaints from farmers in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Latur, and Dharashiv districts, where cotton and soybean seeds allegedly failed to sprout after sowing. This poor germination has reportedly forced several cultivators to undertake resowing, resulting in additional expenditures on seeds, labor, and farm operations during the ongoing kharif season, which is already facing a crisis due to low rainfall.
Prahar chief Bachchu Kadu , an ally of the ruling dispensation led by deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde , had earlier announced an agitation to set fire to the office of the alleged seed supplier, identified as ‘booster’ company, as a mark of protest against the sale of substandard seeds. However, Kadu was not present at the protest venue on Saturday. The agitation was instead led by the party’s district president, Shivaji Gade, and city president, Kunal Raut.
