If you're an Prime Video subscriber and are looking for something new to watch, the streaming platform has just added what has been described as the "most twisted thriller of 2026".

That's the opinion of television critic, Luke Ecclestone, who shared his review of the film, which is based on a 2022 novel by Freida McFadden.

"One of the most talked about films that went absolutely viral last year has just dropped on Prime Video," he enthused in a TikTok video. "If you're a fan of mystery thrillers, you are definitely going to want to check this out."

The film, which stars Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar needs little introduction having grossed over grossed over $400 million (£299m) at the Box Office following it's cinematic release last year. "I'm talking about The Housemaid," Luke said.

He continued: "It's been very divisive - I have friends who didn't like it, but I'm actually someone who enjoyed this film." Luke went on to describe the basic plot, advising that the movie follows Sweeney (as Wilhelmina 'Millie' Calloway) as the nanny for the child of Seyfried (Nina Winchester) and Sklenar (Andrew Winchester).

"However, when Sydney gets there, nothing is at it seemed," he continued. "His wife is absolutely insane. There is so much going on and this is one of the most twisted films to drop all year."

Luke admitted that whilst it's "not one of the best mystery thrillers" in recent times, it still represents a "really solid" film. "It's really enjoyable and it's one of them films that you can see going a very long way," he said. "They will probably make more of them. So if you like films that have you constantly questioning and leave you constantly shocked, this one is definitely worth sticking on."

Prime Video's brief synospis of the title reads: "A struggling woman is happy to start over as a housemaid for an affluent, elite couple."
