Prince Harry and Meghan could get what they always wanted - but there's a catch
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle went on their first date in London on July 3, 2016. Harry and Meghan decided to step back from royal life in 2020, less than two years after their wedding day, and now reside in California with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
It was reported at the time that the late Queen had ruled that Harry and Meghan could not be "half in and half out" as they had previously expressed as their wish for the future. The couple then, following their move to the US, continued away from royal duties, but have since undertaken "faux-royal style" trips such as their visit to Australia earlier this year.
Speaking to OLBG, former royal butler Grant Harrold has said that he thinks the couple could soon get what they always wanted: being "half-in and half-out".
He said: "I don't see them ever settling back in the UK permanently. They seem to have built a lovely life for themselves. I think it is pretty clear that Meghan isn't a fan of the UK, she much prefers the LA lifestyle."
Mr Harrold, however, added: "I could see a future where they spend half of their time here, and the other half in the US."
Expressing a condition that would have to be in place first, he added: "This would depend completely on Harry's relationship with his family, and if the next ten years we see that in a better place. I wouldn't rule out a world where they split their time across the two countries."
Speaking about the couple's upcoming visit next week, he added: "With Harry and Meghan expected to come back to the UK, this could be a mark of a new era. Perhaps we are transitioning from an extremely turbulent ten years to a couple reconciling with their family. "
Harry is set to return to the UK for a few days next week, with Meghan also set to join him.
The couple could also be bringing their children, but this is no longer confirmed following the release of his security report.
It has been suggested that Harry could face "six terrorist threats", with Harry previously stating his fears over bringing Archie and Lilibet to the UK.
