Deepraj Gaonkar will captain Goa against Chandigarh.

"Our team is a mixture of youth and experience. Darshan has done a tremendous job in leading Goa to the Elite Group. We thought of giving him some freedom as he is one of our match winners. He has shouldered a lot of responsibilities over the years. As we face big teams in the season ahead, we thought of giving him a free hand," said GCA secretary Tushidas Shetye.

Shetye also heaped praise on Arjun Tendulkar and Mohit Redkar.

"They are both excellent players. Mohit has been doing really well. Arjun is a match winner. We look forward to a good season," he said.

Goa is drawn in Group B along with Saurashtra, Chandigarh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab.

Goa will play three home games against Chandigarh, Kerala (Jan 29-Feb 1) and Madhya Pradesh (Nov 8-11). They travel to Karnataka (Oct 25-28), Punjab (Nov 1-4) and Saurashtra (Nov 16-19).

Goa is among the 32 Elite teams divided into four groups, with the top two from each group making it to the quarterfinals.

Last season, Goa remained unbeaten in the Plate Group and got the better of Nagaland, Mizoram, Sikkim, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh to earn their place in the Elite category.
