Revenue official booked for bribery
Trichy: A revenue inspector was taken into custody near Manapparai in Trichy on Tuesday by directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption (DVAC) for demanding a bribe of Rs4,000 from a woman to issue a legal heir certificate .
The accused, Hemalatha , works at V Periyapatti in Manapparai taluk. A woman named Eswari had approached the official seeking a legal heir certificate in her father’s name. However, Hemalatha demanded Rs4,000 as bribe to issue the certificate.
Eswari filed a complaint with DVAC Trichy unit which set up a trap on Tuesday. As Hemalatha accepted the bribe amount, DVAC officials moved in and arrested her red-handed. She was booked under Prevention of Corruption Act , and is being investigated further.
