Sky confirms ultimate free upgrade for millions, check your account now

Millions of Sky customers are being treated to a major free upgrade, and the timing could not be better. With the holidays about to get into full swing, Sky has confirmed that some of its most loyal users will now be able to use their smartphones abroad without facing any extra roaming fees.

This free global roaming is available in 120 destinations across the globe, including the USA, South Africa, Australia, India and Thailand.

As many who travel will be well aware, most other UK networks, including EE and Vodafone, charge up to £8 per day for the same privilege of accessing data and calls outside of Britain, so this is a decent and money-saving perk.

So, who gets this boost?

Sky says that the free data roaming will be available to its Sky VIP Diamond customers. That's those who've been with Sky for over 15 years.

It applies to any Diamond customer, either currently with or newly joining Sky Mobile, and works with all data plans.

Once in the foreign country, eligible Sky customers can use their UK data, calls, and texts as if they were in the UK at no extra cost.

Speaking about the changes, Ben Case, Managing Director of Connectivity at Skysaid: "We're giving our longest-standing Sky customers free global roaming in 120 destinations with Sky Mobile - it's another way we're recognising loyalty with rewards that matter.

"Whether in Chile or China, South Korea or South Africa, Sky VIP Diamond customers will now stay connected at no extra cost."

Cost of roaming in places such as the US from other networks.

EE charges £6 per day to access data when in the USA, or there's the option to buy a 7-day pass for £30.

Vodafone's USA roaming pricing also starts at £6 per day, whilst Three's pricing is £5.

Those opting for eSIMs from firms such as Airola can grab data from as little as £3.50, although that low price is only for 3 days of access and is limited to 1GB.
