Steam Machine pre-orders tipped to start next week

After months of patiently waiting for Valve to finally launch its upcoming Steam Machine, it looks like the release date is finally nearing. According to sources, Valve is reportedly gearing up for a pre-order announcement to go live from June 23, 2026, with the Steam Machine reservation system opening up on June 30.

That's according to X user HardwareSteam, which has been following all the latest developments with the Steam Machine. Last week, it reported that review units of the console had made their way into the hands of reviewers, and it now claims the review embargo is set for next Tuesday.

"[Reviewers are] allowed to post videos after June 23," one source is reported as saying.

The post reads: "Not 100% yet, but if I were to give an exact date off of what would make sense and what I was told, I'd say announcement Tuesday, June 23 at 10AM PT, and reservations Tuesday, June 30 at 10AM PT."

This timeline makes a lot of sense when compared to how Valve handled the launch of the Steam Controller back in April and May. Back then, we saw the review embargo lift on April 27 with order reservations officially going live a week later on May 8.

A few other pieces of evidence also point towards Valve targeting the end of June for a Steam Machine release date. For one, the company had previously promised to deliver the console in the 'first half' of 2026, with it later pushing the date back to 'Summer 2026'.

By opening up orders on June 30, Valve is technically still delivering on both promises, just making that first half of 2026 deadline by the skin of its teeth.

What's more, we also reported last week that a finding on the Canadian FCC website seems to show that the manual for the Steam Machine will become public on June 29. This could just be when the confidentiality agreement signed by Valve expires, but it could also time very nicely with a full hardware launch.

It's been a long road to the launch of the Steam Machine with Valve initially intending to release the PC/Console hybrid device in 'early' 2026. However, this was pushed back as the price of computer components skyrocketed as the supply line got clogged with the demand from AI centres.

Things are still looking pretty dire, and we've seen the likes of Sony and Nintendo already hike the price of their own consoles. Valve still hasn't clarified how much the Steam Machine will cost, but we're expecting it to be higher than we first expected.
