Steam Machine release date, price, pre-orders and how to secure a unit at launch

There's good news for PC gaming fans, as platform holder Valve finally announces pricing, pre-orders and release dates for the hotly anticipated Steam Machine. Featuring the versatility of a PC but with the accessibility of a console, the Steam Machine is the latest in the company's growing line of hardware.

After making fans wait longer than initially anticipated, the Steam Machine has been given a June 29 release date, but only if you are at the top of a randomised queue. You'll need to sign up to join the queue before 6pm BST UK time on June 25, at which point Valve will "close sign-ups and do a one-time randomisation to determine the reservation and waitlist order".

Steam Machine price and bundles

The Steam Machine will come in a variety of different editions based on storage space and additional accessories.

Priced at £879, the cheapest model comes with 512GB of storage and no controller. As a reminder, you can use other gamepads with the Steam Machine, including the PS5 DualSense and Xbox Series controller.

If you want an official Steam Controller with your Steam Machine, then you can pay £938 for a 512GB Steam Machine with Valve's official pad.

Of course, if you have a sizeable games library and want a bit more storage, then you can shell out £1,149 for the 2TB model with no controller.

Finally, the 2TB Steam Machine with official Steam Controller is available for £1,208. Both 2TB versions come with red fabric, and solid walnut faceplates.

How to pre-order a Steam Machine

If you're interested in purchasing a Steam Machine, then you'll need to visit the store page, select the model you are interested in and accept to terms and conditions to be added to the list. (You'll also need be logged into your Steam account.)

Once you've signed up, you'll receive an email confirming that you have joined the list.

"You have joined the list for Steam Machine," reads the official Valve email. "On 25 June, 2026, the list will be randomised and you will receive an email with your results shortly after."

As a reminder, you'll need to sign up before 6pm BST on June 25 to be entered in the draw.

It's worth noting that while you can only order one Steam Machine per household, you can enter the draw for different variants if you're not too fussed which model you get.
