Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express: Third Train, Route, Stops And Journey Time
Indian Railways is preparing to add a third Vande Bharat train between Jammu and Srinagar, providing an additional travel option for passengers travelling between the two cities.
The new service will operate via Udhampur, with the railway ministry agreeing to include the station as a stop following a request from the local population.
Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh announced the development on X, saying, “Good news for Udhampur. In response to a popular public demand of the local population and an earnest request made by us, the Railway ministry has agreed to include Udhampur as a stopover for the third and new VandeBharat Express between Jammu and Srinagar,”
The move is expected to make train travel more accessible for residents of Udhampur while adding capacity to an increasingly popular rail corridor.
From April 30, 2026, the services were extended to Jammu Tawi railway station, giving passengers a direct Vande Bharat connection between Jammu and Srinagar.
The trains have reportedly witnessed strong demand since their introduction. According to Indian Railways, both services have been operating with high occupancy, leading to an increase in coach capacity from 16 to 20 coaches per train.
The growing passenger demand highlights the importance of faster and more comfortable rail connectivity between Jammu and the Kashmir Valley.

The journey takes around four hours and 45 minutes, making it a significantly convenient option for passengers travelling between Jammu and Srinagar.
The existing service has four intermediate stops:
For residents of Udhampur and nearby areas, the additional service could make planning journeys easier. It may also support tourism and local travel by improving connectivity between Jammu and Kashmir.
The move comes as Indian Railways continues to expand its Vande Bharat network across different parts of the country.
However, the final timetable, stoppages and launch details for the Bengaluru-Mumbai Vande Bharat Sleeper are yet to be announced.
With more Vande Bharat services being added to important routes, Indian Railways is gradually expanding faster rail connectivity while responding to growing passenger demand.

The first two Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat trains were introduced on June 6, 2025. Initially, the services operated between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Srinagar.From April 30, 2026, the services were extended to Jammu Tawi railway station, giving passengers a direct Vande Bharat connection between Jammu and Srinagar.

Jammu Tawi-Srinagar Vande Bharat Route And Stoppages
The existing Jammu Tawi-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express covers approximately 269 km between the two destinations.The journey takes around four hours and 45 minutes, making it a significantly convenient option for passengers travelling between Jammu and Srinagar.
The existing service has four intermediate stops:
- Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan Udhampur
- Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra
- Reasi
- Banihal
How The Third Vande Bharat Train Could Help Passengers
The introduction of another Vande Bharat Express on the Jammu-Srinagar route is expected to increase the number of available seats and provide greater flexibility for travellers.For residents of Udhampur and nearby areas, the additional service could make planning journeys easier. Another anticipated service is the Bengaluru-Mumbai Vande Bharat Sleeper, which is expected to strengthen overnight connectivity between the two major cities.However, the final timetable, stoppages and launch details for the Bengaluru-Mumbai Vande Bharat Sleeper are yet to be announced.
