The latest map show that around eight counties in England will see the temperature levels soaring as high 30C. The weather maps have, however, turned red for most parts of England indicating the chances of extreme warm conditions.

A heatwave in the UK is defined by the Met Office as at least three consecutive days with daily maximum temperatures exceeding a county-specific threshold, reflecting a sustained spell of unusually hot weather.

The heatwave threshold temperature varies across the UK. In Greater London it is 28C whereas in Northern Ireland and Scotland it is 25C.

The Met Office's long-range forecast between May 25 and June 3 reads: "Warm and dry for most on Bank Holiday Monday. Through the week, high pressure is expected to remain in place for much of the UK, meaning fine weather likely to continue for most places.

"Some patchy rain may affect the far north at times and perhaps a few showers in the far south. Temperatures are expected to be above normal, feeling very warm at times with light winds."
