Woman killed, six of family injured as car hits van

Indore: A 75-year-old woman was killed and six others of a family were injured when a speeding car allegedly hit their van, causing it to flip multiple times, on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Bhuteda toll plaza at Jaora in Ratlam district on Sunday night.

Jaora Industrial Area police station in-charge Vikram Singh Chauhan said that the victims, all belonging to the same family, were returning home to Jhalawar after attending an engagement ceremony in Ratlam when the accident took place around 10pm on Sunday. The impact of collision was so severe that the van rolled over three times. The police rushed to the scene upon receiving an alert.

The accident resulted in the death of Mehmoodi Bi (75), wife of Sharif Khan, a resident of Barod in Agar Malwa district.

The six injured were identified as 30-year-old Heena, 32-year-old Shaheen 34-year-old Arif (34), all residents of Bhanpura in Mandsaur; 22-year-old Salina of Bhawani Mandi, 35-year-old Yasmin of Barod and 55-year-old Latif of Jhalawar. All the injured were rushed to a local hospital in Jaora for primary treatment before being referred to Ratlam Medical College late at night.

The car that caused the collision also stalled, but its occupants were unharmed. "The car has been seized and a case has been registered at Jaora Industrial police station. Further investigation is on," Chauhan said.
