'Toss Fixing?' Fans Furious After Strange Toss Scene in GT vs RR IPL 2026 Qualifier 2

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 Qualifier 2 fixture between Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals, being held at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur began with a big controversy before even a single ball was bowled in the fixture. A dramatic toss went on to be the center of attention on social media after the decision of the toss to be re-done became the main talking point, with some of the fans questioned the toss being conducted twice.

 

During the first toss, the captain of Rajasthan Royals, Riyan Parag had called "heads" but the toss fell on tails. Nonetheless, the match referee Prakash Bhatt claimed that he didn't clearly hear the call and declared that the toss would be done again. On the second attempt, the coin falls on Rajasthan Royals favor giving the opposition side the opportunity to bat first in a must-win knockout match.

 

The incident immediately became the cause of much amusement with some of the fans taking to X to question the league as some went on to term it as 'toss fixing' by the league given the fact that the toss is becoming such an important thing during the ongoing IPL 2026 edition.

Shubman Gill's Take on the Second Time Toss

 

Post the redo of the toss, Gujarat Titans' skipper Shubman Gill was present to voice his opinion. He said, "We would have also liked to bat first".

 

"Unfortunately the ref didn't hear the call," Gill added.

 

The toss held immense importance due to the way IPL 2026 games have been going on lately where teams batting first have a definite advantage. 6 out of last 7 matches are won by teams chasing their targets and hence was a very significant coin toss at a high-pressure playoff match.

 

Both the sides came to the field with strong playing XI's and very strong batting line-ups. Rajasthan Royals backed their young guns Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal once again at the top, while Gujarat Titans went with the reliable three Sai Sudharsan, Jos Buttler and Shubman Gill at the top order.
