Canadian GeoAI company Deepspatial has signed two agreements in India, partnering with IIT Tirupati Navavishkar I-Hub Foundation and OneIndia to support geospatial research, technology development and student media literacy .

The agreements were signed in Bengaluru on 16 October during a Canadian trade mission led by Canada's Minister of International Trade, Maninder Sidhu. The wider mission produced 34 commercial agreements, partnerships and investment announcements valued at close to C$300 million.

Both Deepspatial deals were listed under information and communications technologies.

Deepspatial signs agreements covering research and education

The two agreements address different areas of Deepspatial's operations. Its collaboration with IIT Tirupati Navavishkar I-Hub Foundation will focus on geospatial technologies, research, innovation and talent development. The second agreement, with Greynium Information Technologies Private Limited, the company behind OneIndia, will bring daily news and current-affairs content to edskExpress, Deepspatial's student learning and media-literacy platform.

Dr. Rahul Kushwah, Founder and CEO of Deepspatial, said:

"These partnerships represent an important step in Deepspatial's roadmap to scale GeoAI-powered decision intelligence and build technology solutions with meaningful real-world impact. Our collaboration with IIT Tirupati Navavishkar I-Hub Foundation will strengthen our research, innovation and talent development ecosystem, while our partnership with OneIndia will expand the role of credible content and digital media literacy in student learning through edskExpress. Together, they reflect our broader ambition to connect technology, institutional expertise and industry partnerships to create scalable solutions across sectors. As we continue to expand our presence in India and explore opportunities in international markets, our focus remains on building a strong innovation ecosystem that translates advanced technology into measurable outcomes."

IIT Tirupati partnership to focus on Spatial AI and talent

Under the agreement with IIT Tirupati Navavishkar I-Hub Foundation (IITTNiF), Deepspatial will collaborate with the institute's Technology Innovation Hub on geospatial technologies, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), positioning systems and Spatial AI.

The scope of the partnership includes joint research and development, talent development, technology commercialisation, startup incubation and stronger engagement between academic institutions and industry. The collaboration is intended to connect technological research with practical applications while creating opportunities for researchers, students and emerging businesses.

One of the key initiatives is Xploor, Deepspatial's global GeoAI mentorship programme, which will be launched through the SPIN Labs network. The programme aims to provide students and early-career professionals with practical exposure to GeoAI, artificial intelligence and data science. Participants will be connected with real-world location-intelligence challenges to help them understand how these technologies can be applied beyond academic settings.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Roshan K. Srivastav, Project Director of the Technology Innovation Hub at IITTNiF, and Dr. Rahul Kushwah. Tulika Saha, Senior Executive Assistant at IITTNiF, and Saurabh Tyagi, Chief Marketing Officer at Deepspatial, were also present.

Commenting on the partnership, Dr. Roshan K. Srivastav said:

"Our collaboration with Deepspatial marks an important step towards connecting research, innovation and industry to develop impactful geospatial and Spatial AI solutions. Through this partnership, we aim to strengthen India-Canada cooperation in emerging technologies, accelerate technology development and commercialisation, and create new opportunities for startups, researchers and young innovators. At IIT Tirupati's Technology Innovation Hub (IITTNiF), our focus is on translating research into real-world capabilities, and we look forward to building meaningful outcomes through this collaboration."

OneIndia to supply news content for edskExpress

The agreement with OneIndia will bring daily news and current-affairs coverage into Deepspatial's edskExpress platform. The initiative is intended to help students follow real-world developments while developing informed reading habits, critical thinking and media literacy.

Under the proposed model, students will have opportunities to engage with credible journalism, examine information critically and improve their understanding of current affairs. The platform also encourages learners to report stories from their own communities, creating a connection between news consumption and practical reporting.

The agreement was signed by Ravanan N., Chief Executive Officer of OneIndia, and Dr. Rahul Kushwah. James PJ, Senior Director – Content Strategy and Monetization at OneIndia, and Saurabh Tyagi were also present at the signing.

Ravanan N. explained the purpose of bringing journalism into the classroom, saying:

"Credible news shouldn't stop at the newsroom. It should reach the classroom. We at OneIndia think about content for a living, and what we keep coming back to is this: positive news isn't soft news. For a young reader, seeing what is working, and who is making it work, is what makes change feel possible. That's the idea behind our work with edskExpress. Students read credible journalism, question it, and report their own stories. Journalism for impact starts early."

Canada-India trade mission announces 34 agreements

The partnerships involving Deepspatial formed part of a wider Canadian trade mission to India. Global Affairs Canada described the visit as the largest Team Canada trade mission to the country in three decades. Nearly 300 Canadian representatives travelled to Mumbai and Bengaluru for the programme.

According to the supplied article, the mission resulted in 34 commercial agreements, partnerships and investment announcements, with 11 signed in Mumbai and 23 in Bengaluru. Their combined estimated value was close to C$300 million.

Indian organisations participating in the mission included Tata Projects, GMR Aero Technic, Adani Ports and SEZ, KPMG India, Aditya Birla Insulators and Apollo Health Resources. Academic institutions included IIT Tirupati, IISER Tirupati and IIT Roorkee.

The visit was also linked to Canada's trade diversification agenda. During the mission, Sidhu met India's Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, to advance negotiations towards a Canada-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

Deepspatial aims to scale its initiatives beyond India

Deepspatial plans to develop the two partnerships into programmes that can expand its institutional network, strengthen technology adoption and support its international ambitions.
