The announcement came after demands from opposition leaders and others seeking a holiday, as many students were expected to stay awake to watch the high-profile match.
Former Education Minister V Sivankutty had earlier highlighted that attending classes in the morning after a match ending past midnight could be difficult for students.
Scheduled exams to continue
While regular classes will remain suspended, examinations that were already scheduled in advance will not be postponed.
