Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1’ Breaks Records, Leaves Salman Khan's ‘Dabangg 2’ Behind In Hindi Cinema

Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1’ continues its blockbuster run at the box office, raking in a total of ₹465.75 crore worldwide. The film, loved across multiple languages, now sees its Hindi version surpassing the Kannada original in daily collections.

In just 13 days, the Kannada version has contributed ₹146.45 crore, while the Hindi version has pulled ahead with ₹155.35 crore. On Day 13 alone, Kantara 2 grossed ₹13.50 crore, with ₹6.35 crore from Hindi audiences and ₹3.75 crore from the Kannada belt. The rest came from its Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam versions.

With its Hindi collection alone crossing ₹155 crore, Kantara 2 has surpassed Salman Khan’s Dabangg 2 (₹155 crore) to become the 63rd biggest hit in Hindi cinema history. The film climbed six ranks in just a day leaving behind titles like Tanu Weds Manu Returns (₹150.71 crore), OMG 2 (₹151.16 crore), Chhichhore (₹153.16 crore), and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (₹153.5 crore).


Industry experts note that the film’s emotional storytelling, rooted folklore, and grand visuals continue to pull audiences to theaters. The strong word-of-mouth and cultural connect have played a key role in its nationwide success.

With no major competition until the release of Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s Thamma and Harshvardhan Rane - Sonam Bajwa starrer Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat on October 21, Kantara 2 is expected to maintain its dominance for another week.


Featuring Gulshan Devaiah, Jayaram, and Rukmini Vasanth in pivotal roles, Kantara 2 ends with a powerful climax that sets the stage for its next installment. The makers have officially confirmed that Kantara 3 is already in the pipeline, much to the delight of fans.
