Clips from the episode show the child answering questions with quick wit and assertiveness. While some viewers found his demeanor refreshing and confident, others labeled it “disrespectful” and “inappropriate for his age.” The internet soon split into two camps one praising his fearless attitude, and another calling out poor parenting.

The ‘Six Pocket Syndrome’ Debate Begins

The discussion took an unexpected turn when psychologists and teachers linked the child’s behavior to what’s being called the “Six Pocket Syndrome.”

In a viral video, a teacher explained that in many nuclear families, especially those with only one child, the youngster often receives attention, love, and gifts from six adults two parents and four grandparents.

“With six people pampering one child, it’s natural for them to feel overly important and entitled,” the teacher remarked.

What Experts Say About the Syndrome

To gain a deeper understanding, HT Lifestyle reached out to Counselling Psychologist Richa Aggarwal, a consultant at Yatharth Hospital, Model Town, New Delhi, with over nine years of experience.

She explained,

“Six Pocket Syndrome refers to a situation where a single child is pampered excessively by six adults two parents and four grandparents. This overindulgence often leads to behavioural issues such as overconfidence, poor emotional regulation, and a lack of respect for authority.”

Aggarwal noted that confidence is healthy, but it must be balanced.

“Parents often mistake overconfidence for maturity,” she added. “But it’s essential to teach humility, empathy, and patience alongside self-assurance.”

According to Aggarwal, parents can prevent overindulgence by encouraging healthy boundaries and emotional awareness. She shared some key recommendations:

  • Encourage children to earn rewards through effort rather than receive them freely.
  • Set clear boundaries in affectionate families to prevent entitlement.
  • Teach social sensitivity help children understand the importance of respect, especially toward elders.
  • Focus on emotional intelligence and empathy training at home.

What began as lighthearted trolling over a TV show has now evolved into an important conversation about modern parenting and child psychology. Experts believe that social media fame, nuclear families, and material comfort may be contributing to a generation of children who are confident but emotionally underprepared.

As Richa Aggarwal concludes,

“Children mirror what they see. When adults around them glorify achievement but ignore humility, overconfidence becomes their learned behaviour.”

A Larger Lesson Behind the KBC Moment

Whether or not the young contestant’s behaviour on Kaun Banega Crorepati was truly disrespectful, the viral episode has prompted parents and educators to rethink how children are being raised in today’s world.

The debate may have started over a 10-year-old’s confidence on national television but it’s ended up reflecting on something much deeper: how modern parenting shapes the personalities of the next generation
