Kriti Sanon's Take On Celebrities Accepting Pay Cuts For Women-Centric Films: ‘Difference Is Huge’

During a recent conversation with Film Companion, Kriti Sanon was prompted, in reference to Sonam Kapoor's previous interview, to reflect on the evolution of securing funding for films led by women, contrasting "Veere Di Wedding" with "Crew." With a knowing smile, the "Raabta" actress remarked, “Not much. Something very similar also happened during the crew. I feel like when there is a film on women, people are still scared to put in the amount of money that they would have for the same story had it been men.”
Expanding on her observation, Kriti added that there's a palpable apprehension and reluctance among decision-makers to take the plunge, uncertain whether these female-led projects will yield profitable returns. The prevailing concern seems to revolve around the perceived risk associated with such ventures, questioning their financial viability and potential for recouping investments.
She addressed the glaring pay disparity, questioning why certain male colleagues earn ten times more than her. “When you see a budget going into a men-centric film, that’s insane. The difference is huge, and the difference in payment between male and female actors currently is also huge, for no reason. Sometimes, for no reason. Sometimes, you feel like it’s not like that person has given a hit in 10 years; then why is he getting paid 10 times more?”
“It doesn’t matter if there’s a guy or a girl in the film; it’s the story and how entertaining it is. I am hoping the balance gets somewhere in place,” she added.
Meanwhile, "Crew" showcased Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kriti Sanon, and Tabu in prominent roles. The storyline revolves around three flight attendants navigating the challenges of the financially strained airline industry.
